Mapping of security initiatives in the border of Brazil and Paraguay

Abstract

The present paper aims to map the legal and operational initiatives on security on the border of Brazil and Paraguay and to analyze the legal, institutional, economic, and development asymmetry existent between both countries. That said, the work aims to answer the following problem: “How do these asymmetries affect legal and operational initiatives on security in both countries?”. For this, a qualitative approach of a descriptive stamp, as of a documental survey as well as a literature review of a primary source, being the mapping in question, and a literature review of a secondary source, which works the theory, the concepts, and the conjuncture of the Brazil-Paraguay border. At the first moment, it is seen that
this asymmetry makes regional cooperation difficult in the fight against transnational organized crime in the region, making it increasingly, a fertile ground for illicit activities such as the trafficking of weapons, drugs, and smuggling. Finally, it is expected that the work can contribute to Defense Studies as well as those of national, regional and, consequently, international security, thus contributing to Security Studies.
